Truffle Dinner @ Vue de Monde

We're back at Vue but this time it's for the Truffle dinner and we've been joined by fellow trufflephiles Al and Elle. All the truffles for this meal have come from Manjimup.

The evening begins with glasses of NV Jean-Paul Perardel Champagne.

Both the soil and the dressing were intensely truffle flavoured - the thick dressing was something you'd like to eat by the spoonful.

These only had a subtle truffle flavour.

First Course:

To drink: 2009 Truffle Hill Riesling Reserve

An interesting start - it's light but punctuated by those earthy discs of truffle.

Second Course:

To drink: 2008 Max Ferd. Richter Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling

A beautifully cooked piece of foie gras that virtually melted in your mouth - the truffles infused a mild earthy note to the garden vegetables.

Third Course:

To drink: 1962 Carlo Pellegrino Marsala Vergine Riserva DOC

The only thing better than the black truffle risotto is the white truffle risotto. This is how I wish all people made their risotto and it puts to shame many a bowl found in supposedly Italian restaurants. It is just the perfect consistency, the rice isn't chalky, it's creamy and thick and in this case, built upon a foundation of porcini. We all loved the wine match - an inspired choice.

It certainly was a full on night in the kitchen!

Fourth Course:

To drink: 2008 Álvaro Castro Dão Reserva Branco

You might recognise this from our lunch - this time while the rocks are smaller, it is now topped with shavings of smoked truffle.

Fifth Course:

To drink: 1996 Best's Bin 0 Shiraz

A lovely dish though the truffle was a bit understated.

Cheese:

2006 Chateau la Rame Sainte Croix du Mont

The truffle returns in this dish, works beautifully in the soil and is a perfect partner to the mushroom notes of the brie.

Dessert:

To drink: NV Vue de Monde Muscadelle by Chambers

I'm always impressed how well truffle can work in desserts if you know what you are doing.
