We begin:
Something to nibble on while we ponder the menu - love the crispy school prawns and whitebait though the yam fritters more than easily hold their own. It's a good way to get the appetite going.
This is followed by an amuse:
A velvety Pumpkin veloute.
Starters:
This was one of the specials - I think it was prawn ravioli drizzled with a butter sauce.
My selection - the marron was lightly poached so you could enjoy that sweet flesh. The lemon aspen/avocado combination provided a lovely citric/creamy contrast to the marron flesh.
Mains:
Pork and Scallops - this must be my selection. The belly was spectacularly good, with an almost caramel like consistency to the pork skin. Scallops were excellent and the davidson plum sauce proved an excellent match.
Well cooked salmon, still slightly pink on the inside.
Another well cooked piece of meat, as you can see, still lovely and pink on the inside.
Sides:
Over dinner, conversation turned to our previous shared dining experience on Gertrude Street and how this meal was everything the other wasn't. We all agree, Charcoal Lane is easily the best place to eat on this street.
