Dinner @ Home Dining Room

I can't believe that it's been well over a year since we've had dinner at Home Dining Room so we're more than overdue for a re-visit.

We begin with Knead bakery bread served with olive oil and dukkah and a generous bowl of warm olives flavoured with orange and fennel.

For our next course we opt for the Taste of Home Grazing Plate

From the bottom right and going clockwise
duck liver parfait with crispy toasts and pumpkin chutney ~ zucchini and mint fritters with cumin yoghurt ~ smoked lamb with horseradish pannacotta ~ Japanese fried drunken chicken with ginger and wasabi mayo ~ pumpkin seed and blue cheese arancini served with beetroot and pomegranate ~ salt and pepper squid with garlic aioli

It's all very tasty and well made - the squid is tender, the japanese chicken is positively addictive, the arancini are nice and creamy, the pumpkin seed is an unusual touch and works quite well.

Onto mains:

Eye fillet with roasted vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and mustard crème

A sight that warms the heart of the resident Englishman - eye fillet is cooked correctly and served with a mustard sauce, a good selection of roasted veg and yorkshire pudding.

Roast pork roulade with crispy smashed sweet potato and mixed bean salad

Really lovely pork - it's not overly fatty and the fat that is there is well cooked to almost dissolve in your mouth.  The crackling is quite nice - theres a crispness to the edges but it's more like chewy caramel, it's soft but not flaccid.

For dessert:

Sticky date pudding with vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce - on a cold night, it doesn't get much better than this. Sweet, sticky and delicious!

Eton Mess - white chocolate mousse with berry coulis and crushed meringue

I really don't have to say that this was very lovely and should come with a health warning. That is a bit unfair, it is rich but not too rich, the meringes and the coulis do lighten up the dish.
