Fred Young of Kew is the type of place that seems to have been around for ages - we've driven past countless times but just not bothered to stop and go try it out. Next year, this area will suddenly become a culinary hotspot with the arrival of St Katherines and I dare say, the pressure will be on existing businesses to survive which is why we've decided to check out the scene.
Fred Young is a fairly large space that hasn't dated very well - it looks all a bit too 1990's shopping center. The menu, well, you can call it old school.
We're here for a quick lunch and opt for the standards:

We've managed to sneak in another visit before the menu changes. Tonight, there's also a couple of specials - one of which are snails.

Our morning meeting went longer than expected so we're rewarding ourselves with lunch at Koots. For Lunch, two options are availble - a limited fixed price menu and a la carte. We've gone for a mix of the two.
For starters:
Salt cod brandade with grilled calamari, Mt Zero olives and rocket salad

Lunch @ Il Bacaro

If you've only casually read this blog you'd know that we have a fondness for truffle - white truffles are a particular weakness. The mere mention of their arrival will see us scurrying to taste them. This week a few kilos of alba white truffles landed at Il Bacaro - and not far behind them you'd find us.
There are special truffle dishes covering entrees, pasta and mains which the poor waiter had to describe twice since the first time we lost concentration as soon as the aroma of truffle hit us. It's also possible to add truffle to some of the existing dishes on the menu.
As you'll soon see we ended up with a mix of specials and regular items.
