The Boathouse on the Maribyrnong River is the second restaurant run by Gary Mehigan and Raymond Capaldi of Fenix.
The main dining room is a light, bright and airy space - large windows offer great views of the river.
What better way to begin a leisurely lunch then with a bottle of bubbly - this is a 2002 Padthaway Estate Eliza Pinot Noir Chardonnay - a most enjoyable South Australian sparkling. Excellent persistent bead, honey coloured, fresh tasting.
Freshly shucked oysters
Scallops on the half shell with aoili and garlic breadcrumbs
these are very similiar to those had at Fenix - main difference is that these scallops are more varied in size and there's no pretty muslin covering the lemon.
Pizza with Pancetta, Fior de Latte, Mushrooms, Salsa Verde and Rocket
Pizza with Taleggio, Red Onion and Waxy Potato
perfect combination - voluptuous flavours of taleggio ooze over the firm discs of potato, the base crisp with a spongey interior.
Small Greek Salad - baby cos lettuce, diced cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, persian fetta
if only all salads were this fresh and this well constructed
Pizza with white and dark chocolate, confit orange and vanilla bean ice-cream
Doughnuts with Frangelico Chocolate Sauce
amazingly generous serve - 7 doughnuts in total - light and airy, no greasy aftertaste. The sauce was actually fairly light - only delicately flavoured with frangelico.
