There's more to the kitchen on both sides - bread and dessert section to the left - fried section to the right. Behind this open kitchen is the kitchen for Maze.
It may not be that delicious seaweed butter from Maze but you do get scrumptious onion rolls to compensate.
The menu is divided into Small Plates, Starters, Salads, Beef, Sides, Sauces and Other Mains and our first selections are from the Small Plates
We're not going to let the chance to have pig trotters go past and they are pictured at the rear of this photo. Served as crumbed circles with the ravigote dressing (a mix of chopped cooked egg yolk, capers, vinegar). Crisp on the outside, inside they are pure trotter, a combination of those soft and gelatinous textures.
At the front, the flavours of spain on a plate, chorizo, peppers, potatoes, tomatoes and shallots, what's not to enjoy?
From the starters:
The crisp and exceptionally meaty soft shell crab would have been really good but the harissa mayonnaise gave it that zing factor
An excellent charcuterie plate.
For mains:
A most impressive burger - served medium-rare, it's pink and juicy. The vegetables are served on the side.
There's quite a few choices to be had on the steak front but it's hard to go past meat on the bone. All the steak dishes are served with whole roasted garlic and a choice of sauces.
For dessert:
We weren't going to have dessert but then we looked at the menu and found something that sounded quite refreshing and indeed it was - melon salad, pimms jelly, blood orange sorbet - it was light, sweet and fresh. Paalo opted for a ice-cream duo - salted caramel and vanilla.
To finish, assorted chocolate lollypops.

So would you recommend Maze Grill over the main restaurant? I noticed that you were impressed with your meal there too...

They are totally different styles and I'd recommend either it just depends on what your mood is. If you want something more refined, go Maze, if you're after excellent steak in a more casual setting, go to the Grill
