what strikes you as soon as you sit down is the expansive view
we're quickly settled with menus and bubbly
For starters:
Guanciale, slow braised du puy lentils, wild herb soup
A simple composition but the flavours all come through. The wild herb soup is a light purée, the herbs are sourced straight from the kitchen garden
special of the day - spiced roasted red pepper soup with caramelised onions
A lovely curry note carries through this soup and yet allows the red pepper and onions characters to exist.
We are really impressed with this 2004 Tokar Estate Tempranillo
These mirrors are a great idea - they are angled just so, that even if you don't face the view you still get the full view reflected.
Onto mains:
Veal Cutlet, Silvan Jerusalem artichoke gratin, brussels sprout leaves, hazelnut crumbs, pan juices
A combination of flavours that work really well - the hazelnut and sprouts are a great mix. The veal cutlet was a lovely piece of meat.
Margaret River eye fillet steak, butternut pumpkin and sage blini, oven roasted Yarra Glen oyster mushrooms, cabernet jus
Cooked rare, the eye fillet had plenty of flavour while retaining tenderness.
For sides we order the Tuscan style Toolangi Delight potatoes (cooked with garlic and rosemary) and Broccolini with Healesville smoked bacon.
I'd especially like to compliment the wait staff for handing two groups of obnoxious diners with great aplomb and good grace. A word to these diners, just because you've come from the city doesn't give you the right to talk down to people or to make fun of the way they speak.
