Church St. Enoteca are once again holding a series of Regional Italian Dinners - the first of which focuses on Trentino-Alto Adige.
The dinner will be served family style - which means shared plates for the table.
On Arrival:
A soup of pearl barley with seasonal vegetables, garlic, herbs and speck - a warming brew that leaves you wanting more, that lovely smoky flavour of speck comes through beautifully.
To drink: Prosecco Marca Oro Extra Dry
First Course:
House made blood sausage sits on a base of sauerkraut, walnuts and chestnuts, covered with a pine nut crumble.
To drink: Pinot Bianco 2008 Doc Weissburgunder
Second Course:
Risotto of Renette apples and almonds - you may at first think that sounds a bit strange but no, apples feature strongly in the cuisine of Trento-Alto Adige. A creamy risotto intermingled with a slight crunch from the apple pieces.
To drink: Pinot Bianco 2008 Doc Weissburgunder
Third Course:
A very soft and creamy polenta is topped with a rich ragu of wild boar - the boar is sourced from NSW. It's one of those dishes that are made for bread to help soak up those rich juices.
To drink: Lagrein 2006 Castel Turmhof
Dolci:
A tradition Austrian Apple Strudel served with cream - we felt a bit like Oliver after this, "please sir, can we have more?" A truly sublime strudel.
