Lunch @ Koots Salle a Manger

Although Bastille Day is tomorrow, you can still celebrate at Koots with a special week long Bastille menu.

To start, pissaladiere - a beautiful flaky and buttery base topped with richly caramelised onions, thyme, olives and anchovies. The onions were particularly delicious, cooked long and slow so that the natural sugars developed, they were almost creamy.

A refined and delicate offering - simple but the flavours were spot on. A fine slice of lightly cured salmon, the beetroot adding a slight colour to the edge and a sweet earthiness to the flavour. The horseradish cream had just enough warmth from the horseradish to cleanse your palate.

For mains, we move to a more home-style offering. The beef was beautifully tender, easily cut with a fork. The tagliatelle were also excellent, quite fine pasta, cooked correctly - they were lovely to twirl into the daube juices.

A classic dessert and utterly delicious - once again beautifully flaky and buttery pastry with lovely caramelised apples. The caramel ice cream, cold and creamy, a perfect match to the hot tart.
