It's the last of the Italian dinners and tonight we're exploring the region of Puglia.
We begin with glasses of 2006 Cantele Telero Bianco Salento IGT - a blend of 80% Malvasia and 20% Chardonnay. It's matched to our first course
Cozze alla Leccese
mussels baked with olive oil, lemon and parsley
Second Course:
Ciceri e Tria
chickpea and noodle soup
To drink: 2006 Antica Enotria Falanghina Puglia IGT - this is an organically produced wine, a blend of Falanghina and Greco grapes.
Third Course:
Scampi all'Apulia
roasted scapi in a hot tomato sauce
To drink: 2006 Cantele Negroamaro Rosato Salento IGT - this uses 100% negroamaro
The sauce was rich with just a touch of chilli and really worked well with the soft oven roasted scampi.
Fourth Course:
Maiale al Latte
pork cooked in milk with peppers and polenta
To drink: 2002 Cantele Salice Salentino Riserva DOC - this is a blend of 85% Negroamaro and 15% Malvasia Nera.
The pork is rubbed with a spice mix and then left for 8 hours - it is then cooked in milk, the leftover milk is reduced to form the sauce. A beautiful dish.
Dessert:
Carteddate
Fried Moscato pastry with honey and cinnamon
To drink: 2006 Rivera "Piani di Tufara" Moscato di Trani DOC - made with 100% moscato di trani
These were like an ultra thin version of crostoli, finished off with a drizzle of honey and cinnamon.
