For dinner, the Heide Garden Menu du Jour is available, in either two or three course options.
Too lovely not to take a picture of - 1999 Henschke Semillon.
For starters:
These crisp cylinders were unbelievable juicy and moist and a really interesting way to serve snails.
I'm a sucker for potted prawns but how gorgeous is this presentation? Lift the lid to reveal
plump little prawns surrounded in a decadent quantity of herbed butter - served with lovely grilled bread and crisp salad.
For mains:
I don't need to say much, it was as good as it looked - lamb fillets surrounded by thick and crisp puff pastry, served with herb breadcrumb stuffed cherry tomatoes
I kept the seafood theme going with this selection as I don't often see skate on the menu. It was dressed with a lovely piquant sauce - a mix of capers and olives - and accompanied by fennel and nasturtium leaves and a wonderfully creamy and ultra smooth mashed potato.
Since the menu focuses on the produce from the garden we really had to order the Garden Salad and I'm glad we did - it was brilliant.
For dessert:
It's like a freeform soufflé!
I recall having something similar at Vue de Monde and it's lovely to see those ideas coming down the chain and reappearing here at Cafe Vue.
To finish:
An excellent end to a lovely night out - the food was interesting, well presented and using top notch ingredients - we'll be back for sure.

This place seems more "up-market" than the Cafe Vue on Little Collins... will need to make a visit, especially since it's so close to my house!
