Lunch @ Bistro Flor

The last time we visited it used to be called Flor and was known for its excellent single malt whisky collection. It's now gained a Bistro in the name and although the interior hasn't really changed I think that whisky collection is gone.

There's an interesting wine list offering selections from Australia, France, Spain, Germany, Austria and Italy.

Food wise we're offered a Brunch menu - there's your usual breakfast offerings, some share dishes and a 2 course weekend lunch special.

We've selected a couple of the share dishes and two entrees - all of which begins with piping hot bread straight from the oven

These are from the share menu - gourgères are stuffed with fresh crab and the croquettes are richly flavoured with a mix of porcini and swiss brown mushrooms. Both are excellent.

These are filled with goat's cheese and pinenuts and served with pickled cherry tomatoes and Israeli couscous. It's a satisfying dish, the flavours all work well.

I really enjoy the candied olives, they are flavour bombs. The cured veal almost looks like very lean pancetta in texture and colour.

For dessert:

This was one of those really excellent panna cotta - the ones that dare to stride the line between set and unset. Delicious.

Full of vanilla bean seeds - it's a well made version of a classic.

  1. That pannacotta looks gorgeous! And I'm not even normally a fan of pannacotta boringness :)
