It's Al's birthday so we've gathered the crew and headed off to Matteo's. I suppose we are getting predictable when the table is already set out for degustation but there is a change to the degustation structure - rather than groupings the dishes will be coming out individually.
We begin with one of our favourites:
We're always happy when we start with this.
A new dish for us - underneath that shredded salad that includes taro lies a trio of seafood delights - balmain bug tail, king prawn and scallop
The tempura okra dominates this photo but you can see those three wagyu bresaola rolls better in the next picture - they are each stuffed with enoki, garlic shoot and daikon.
To accompany this course:
a side of mushrooms and green chillies
Beautifully pink duck, sliced and presented in front of the okonomiyaki
which you can see a bit better in this photo.
Nicely pink lamb served on cavolo nero - the brick pastry spring roll was particularly enjoyed
A refreshing combination to finish the meal.
