Florence - Day 27

This morning, after my market coffee of course, it was off to the station to get the tickets for Friday. From there it was onto the No.11 bus to visit the Boboli Gardens.

Rather than visit via the Palazzo Pitti I went in through the back way, so to speak. I was surprised to see that you have to pass through a metal detector though for the Palazzo Pitti entrance, your bags get x-rayed too. I beeped the first time then remembered I had the phone in my pocket. Doh!

It costs €9 but that will get you into the Mostra Il Giardino Antico, Museo degli Argenti, Galleria del Costume and Museo delle Porcellane.

The Garden is certainly full of statues though it does seem rather barren in some ways, it's certainly nothing like a formal English garden.

Looking back at where I've been

This next bit is quite a pleasant part of the gardens and it seemed to be full of artists with their easels

One last look back...what awaits you next is a rather steep climb to the top of the gardens.

You do get some nice views at the top

80DSC_4720.jpg

and an appreciation of how far you've come

A view of the backside of the Palazzo Pitti

I probably should have stayed at this higher level and continued on but by this stage I was a bit gardened out. Once on ground level, I really didn't feel like climbing back up to see more of the gardens.

Finally it was time to leave the Boboli Gardens - there's much more to see but I saw enough for today.

Through the central courtyard of the Palazzo

80DSC_4771.jpg

there's another grotto

80DSC_4774.jpg

which is feed by the fountain above.

To get back home I went over the nearby Ponte Vecchio

80DSC_4795.jpg

and got a view down both sides of the river

80DSC_4791.jpg

I certainly wasn't the only one here but they all seemed to be taking pictures of themselves

Not as crowded as it has been

80DSC_4811.jpg

I don't now why but I expect to see hobbits in the windows.

80DSC_4800.jpg

There was also a bit of a line at the Uffizi too.

For lunch I stopped at Ristorante Fagioli

I started with the Affettato misto

and then had the Involtini Gigi - filled with fritatta and artichokes and served with delicious potatoes

and a side of beans simply served with good olive oil and pepper.

I'm so glad I persisted and came here, the food was excellent.

My last stop was a quick visit inside the Duomo as there was no queue
