I was so happy to be here and away from the annoying neighbours that I've arranged to stay another day, so I'll be leaving Thursday rather than Wednesday.
This is the lovely Breakfast room of the hotel.
After breakfast, time to do a little more exploring
and find the deliriously delicious, Sandri Pasticceria
I go inside to gaze at the murals and ogle the pastry delights while having a perfect macchiato.
Yes, more stairs and slopes
All this wood has to be hand carted to the restaurant down quite a steep little laneway.
Back to the Cattedrale di San Lorenzo
A better view of the pink and white marble decoration.
The Palazzo dei Priori and Fontana Maggiore
The Sale dei Notari, inside the Palazzo dei Priori
Just in case you don't see the first sign
Lunch was at another place near the hotel
Crostini Misti to start with
the gigantic Mezzaluna alla Chef, a simple sauce of proscuitto and onion
After lunch I go exploring near the Duomo to try to find another viewing area that is listed on my map
I do indeed find what I was looking for
Running beside the stairs on the right of the photo is the 13th century Aqueduct - it is now a walking track but it once carried water into town from Monte Pacciano and the Fontana Maggiore was constructed to celebrate that event
It's fitting to go back to the Fontana Maggiore for another look
The sculptures were made by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano.
Palazzo dei Priori and a closer look at the bronze statues
The Griffin
and The Lion
Back to the hotel to spend some time on the terrace:
and take in the sunset.
For dinner I return to dine near the Duomo at Vittoria
Antipasto della Casa
Pasta with Truffle and Pheasant
