This morning we're off to revisit the churches from yesterday starting with this one
the Chiesa di San Martino Vescovo.
Our next stop was the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista in Bragora which is located on this piazza
Left: Capella of St Francesco D'Assisi
Right: Capella of the Resurrection
Capella of St Giovanni
Capella di San Girolamo
Capella di San Pasquale Bajlon
The Chiesa di San Francesco della Vigna was our third stop
No photos of the interior as they aren't allowed.
On the way to our next church we came upon another we had missed yesterday
the Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Derelitti.
The façade dates from the 17th Century.
Just around the corner is the Chiesa di San Giovanni e Paolo
Before going inside we enjoyed a coffee and a dolce at this nice cafe right opposite the church
This is a grand church and you can easily spend quite a while in here
The next stop is the Chiesa di Santa Maria Formosa - once again photos are not allowed inside
The Façade of the Chiesa di San Giuliano
We're back in the Piazza San Marco - you really do notice an increased number of people as you make your way closer to here.
I was surprised to see queues to enter the basilica
and the Campanile
We do go past one final church on our way home - somehow we missed the rather large Chiesa di San Lorenzo
We both get a bit of a chuckle at this
the positioning of a portrait of Jesus right next to the Communist party offices is truly classical Italian.
For lunch we headed back into the castello/arsenale area to a place we had spotted on our walk this morning
We enjoy this bottle of Valpolicella with our lunch.
For starters
I have the Scallops - these are far better than my last scallop dish, these are perfectly cooked with still that bit of rawness in the centre.
Paalo loves his dish of Sarde in Soar
For mains we both have the roast of the day which is Pork
and we enjoy this served with a good mixed salad.
When we go out later that evening for our nightly passeggiata - I'm almost shocked to see a huge ship heading towards our street.
It's the Celebrity X ship Millennium leaving Venice - I am just amazed at its size.
That's one of the vaparetto's running along side.
Almost gone.
We stay and watch until it is out of sight and then head back to do a bit of food shopping - we've decided to eat in tonight and buy some goodies to make panini.
